“I am deeply saddened by the loss of these three great individuals. Our community knew them as neighbors, teachers, mentors, and leaders within our armed forces. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends,” said Ward 6 D.C. Council member Tommy Wells on his Web site.
According to the National Guard, the Wherleys are survived by a son, David, a noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Army Golden Knights; a daughter, Betsy; and one grandchild.
CNN.com also reported on the Wherleys and The Washington Post reported extensively on all the victims.
