Sad news, friends: The last print issue was our fearless leader's last. Yes, gasp! Julie Westfall was snatched up by Politico’s new local venture, which will make its appearance sometime in the next few months.

The red carpet rolled out on Nov. 20 for Capitol Hill's movers and shakers at the first annual HILLY Awards. | | White House honors Hill program November 23, 2009
Huge kudos to the Hill’s own Higher Achievement program, which received the Coming Up Taller Award from first lady Michelle Obama. The award, which honors out-of-school organizations that provide arts and humanities programs to gifted, at-risk kids, was given at a White House ceremony Nov. 4.

| | It's fun and festival time around the Hill September 18, 2009
September means not only back to school, but also festival time on Capitol Hill. The H Street Festival promises “four blocks of urban fun,” which includes a British tattoo competition (the winner is whoever can stitch the meanest Winston Churchill, HillChatter is guessing), battle of the junk bands, and of course, food! food! food! from the corridor’s great restaurants.

| | Goodbye Trover, Olson July 22, 2009
Chalk up another one for Goliath. The Trover Shop, a Hill institution for more than 50 years, is closing. The Shuman brothers, whose parents Joe and Ann founded the store, penned a heartfelt letter to their customers saying they couldn’t go on due to the economic climate and changes in the industry. What a shame.

Capitol Hill’s own Edge Advertising won a citywide contest, sponsored in part by the District Department of Transportation, for a new bike rack, which will be stationed throughout the city. The winning “Stars and Bars” design was the brainchild of the firm’s senior graphic designer, Monika Gornikiewicz, who bikes every day to the Pennsylvania Avenue office.

| | Goodbye, Innervision March 27, 2009
We heard that Innervision, the wonderful art and office supply store on Barracks Row, is closing since owner JoAnn Rollings is retiring. One of the street’s longest merchants, the store opened in 1982. Make sure you stop by and wish Ms. Rollings a happy retirement. HillChatter will be sure to stop by and stock up on her favorite pens that she only finds there.

| | Ward 6 represents March 24, 2009
HillChatter received the monthly newsletter from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and noticed something awry: There is no Ward 6 representative on the commission. Every ward is represented except for ours. I found this very peculiar especially since Ward 6 is home to artisans of all disciplines, wonderful boutiques and Eastern Market.
